Why Buy Hydraulic Cylinders From Gorilla Spares?
These are just a few of the advantages you’ll enjoy by making your next hydraulic cylinder purchase from us.
- Our cylinders are very easy to maintain and service.
- They’re tough enough to handle dust and other contaminants that often cause lesser cylinders to fail.
- The cylinders we carry are perfect for handling heavy loads.
Many of our cylinders also eliminate the need for bleeding cylinders – a time-consuming, dirty job that no mechanic likes to do. In many instances, bleeding is needed in order to reduce the chances for failure. However, it can lead not only to downtime, it can also pose an injury risk. Mechanics typically need to get into a dump body so they can adjust the screw that controls the bleeder. Our cylinders make that a thing of the past.
Every time the dump bed moves up and down, Gorilla Spares cylinders bleed automatically. Injury risk and downtime are taken out of the equation as a result.
How to Use Hydraulic Cylinders Safely and Efficiently
Dump trucks commonly use hydraulic cylinders because they work in confined spaces. But it’s important to remember that cylinders are only designed to lift and retract – they don’t make a dump body stable. Should the body roll or tilt for whatever reason, that will make the cylinder bend. If it bends too much, that will lead to a sudden dropping of the dump body.
A telescopic cylinder should never be extended when a dump truck is on ground that is uneven, or used on soft ground. Even a four-inch difference in balance between the right and left tires could cause a dump truck to roll over if a telescopic cylinder is fully extended. Also, if crosswinds are excessive, a dump body should never be raised.
Dump bodies should also be loaded to their safe capacity, and these loads must be evenly distributed. This will reduce the risk of a rollover or tilt significantly. If a part of a load becomes lodged while the cylinder is at full extension, always retract the cylinder before trying to dislodge the obstruction. This will also reduce the chances of a rollover.
