More About Gorilla Spares
You may think our name is silly, but when you consider all of the benefits of working with us, you’ll remember that name for years to come. All of our parts are available to ship the same day, helping you avoid downtime. Also, every member of our staff is committed to giving our customers the best possible experience. We’ll be more than happy to answer any of your questions, and help you find the parts that meet your exact needs.
But Gorilla Spares doesn’t make parts. Nor do we have any incentive to try and sell you a certain component, while steering you away from others. What we are is simply a marketplace. We help manufacturers of aftermarket parts find buyers for their products. These manufacturers are as dedicated to quality as the big manufacturers, but they don’t have their own e-commerce platforms. That’s where we come in.
Our “partner vendors,” as we call them, are among the best manufacturers in the industry. They provide products that will perform when you need them to the most, but you won’t have to pay the big prices you would if you went the OEM route. Each and every part we carry either meets or exceeds OEM standards, and has also been rigorously tested. Even better, our parts all feature a one-year guarantee.
Telescopic Cylinders 101
Telescopic cylinders are among our most popular products – and for good reason. They’re called “telescopic” because they’re constructed in much the same way a telescope is made. They have a series of tubes, also known as “sleeves” or “stages,” that nest inside each other. The largest tube extends first, followed by the next smallest one, and so on until all of the tubes come out of their, “nest,” so to speak. When they need to retract, they do so in the opposite order.
You’ll find telescopic cylinders in a wide range of equipment, such as dump trucks, garbage trucks, cranes and many others. Telescopic cylinders come in two forms – single-acting and double-acting. Here’s a brief look at each.
- Single-acting cylinders use hydraulic force to extend in one direction. They use gravity, or some other type of force, to retract. These are the kinds of cylinders you’ll see on dump trucks. Hydraulic forces extend the cylinder, which then lift the dump body. Once the contents are emptied, gravity then retracts the cylinder and brings the body back to its original position.
- Double-acting telescopic cylinders both extend and retract through hydraulic force. You’ll typically see this type of cylinder used in a garbage truck, or in other instances where a cylinder can’t retract through gravity or another external force.
