Gorilla Spares is proud to offer top-of-the-line aftermarket replacement (spare) hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, and more, specifically for the heavy equipment, industrial, agricultural, and aerospace manufacturing industries. Most parts can be shipped the same day, providing you with fast response times.
Our vendor-partners are among the best in the business at supplying high-quality hydraulic products but often lack the resources to develop their own eCommerce sales platforms.
Gorilla Spares partners with them to ensure that you can easily acquire the spare parts you need that are in stock in the USA, meet or exceed OEM specifications, have been performance-tested, and feature a one-year performance guarantee.
Obtain the make and model number of the part you need so that you can make sure the replacement cylinder will have the correct operating specifications. Search the Gorilla Spares site by category, part number, or equipment brand. If you don’t see the direct replacement part you want, we encourage you to reach out to our knowledgeable team for help.
Selecting a Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder
Cylinder Type
A telescopic hydraulic cylinder can be used in applications that require a linear force to be applied over a long distance, such as a dump truck or dump trailer. Although a rod cylinder could potentially do the job, it may be too long when fully collapsed. A telescopic cylinder will be significantly shorter when in the same position, which is a major design advantage over a rod cylinder.
Both single-acting and double-acting telescopic cylinders are used in dump trucks and refuse vehicles.
- Single-acting: Single-acting cylinders are extended through hydraulic pressure, while retraction occurs by means of external forces such as gravity or a counterweight. In a typical dump application, the truck/trailer body is lifted into the air by the cylinder and the heavy weight of the body then causes the cylinder to retract. Single-acting cylinders are ideal for such applications.
- Double-acting: Double-acting cylinders use hydraulic force for both extension and retraction, making this a more complex design. These cylinders are more often used in applications that require a horizontal, or near horizontal, force because gravity is not available to help retract the cylinder, such as in refuse pack/eject trucks and ejector trailers.
Force
Both single-acting and double-acting telescopic cylinders require some level of pressure to build in order to generate enough force to overcome the opposing load. Force is determined based on the bore diameter (the inner diameter measurement of the cylinder bore) and operating pressure.
Consider the size and surface areas, the cylinder materials, the cylinder construction/design, and the pressure limitations of the hydraulic system. Each factor can limit the maximum pressure and force that the cylinder can handle.
