Dump Truck 4 Stage Hydraulic Cylinder
If you’re having a hard time finding a replacement dump truck 4-stage hydraulic cylinder, Gorilla Spares will have it – and at an affordable price. We don’t manufacture parts, and we won’t try to push a certain brand on you due to distribution agreements. We’re simply a way to buy aftermarket replacement parts that cost much less than OEM components. Not only will you save money, you’ll also receive parts that are built to last day after day, year after year.
Hydraulic Cylinders – The Basics
Multi-stage hydraulic cylinders are known as telescopic cylinders. They get their name from the way they work, which is much like a telescope. Telescopic cylinders have tubes, or “stages,” that sit inside each other. The largest diameter stage is known as the barrel, while the smallest stage is called the plunger.
As fluid is pumped into the cylinder, the barrel will extend first. When the barrel reaches its maximum length, or “stroke,” the next stage will start to extend. This goes on and on until the plunger extends fully.
Dump trucks will typically have single-acting telescopic cylinders. A single-acting cylinder starts to extend once hydraulic fluid starts to push the pistons inside. The tubes retract once gravity, or the weight of the dump body, causes fluid to drain out of the cylinder.
One of the main advantages of a telescopic cylinder is that it can extend much farther than its collapsed length. This is really useful in a compact environment, where space is limited yet you still need a long stroke. Dump trucks often operate in relatively tight spaces.
Telescopic cylinders are also perfect for dump trucks because they make it easy for the truck to gradually release its contents safely, while emptying the contents completely. These cylinders also retract in a manner that allows the dump body to return to its original horizontal position. That wouldn’t be possible with non-telescopic cylinders – and the truck would not be safe for travel as a result.
