How to Keep Your Telescopic Cylinders Properly Maintained
You obviously want to make sure that your cylinders last as long as possible. A little preventive maintenance can go a long way toward making that happen.
One of the most important parts of your maintenance program should be keeping your cylinders free of contaminants. Over time, particles can enter your hydraulics, making them fail much earlier than they should. Check the seals regularly to make sure they’re intact, and replace them if needed.
You should also make sure your hydraulic system filters have a switch or gauge that will tell you when the filter is obstructed. Some systems have gauges, but they can be hard for an operator to see. A switch can be added that will trigger a light or an alarm. You may also want to think about getting an upgraded filter, once that will catch smaller particles. They cost more, but they’re worth it when it comes to protecting your equipment.
Check fluid levels regularly as well. If your cylinders don’t have enough oil, they’ll gradually lose performance, and work sluggishly. After a while, they’ll stop working altogether. Inspect your hoses, valves, pumps and other hydraulic system components for signs of leaks.
