When you purchase from us, you’ll be able to do so with complete confidence.
Hydraulic Cylinders – At a Glance
Hydraulic cylinders have a fairly basic design. They contain a few nuts and bolts, and they’re made of steel tubes, rods and pistons. But they have revolutionized industry to the point that many tasks simply wouldn’t be possible without them. Here are just a few of the different types of cylinders that are available.
- Welded-rod cylinders – These are cylinders that have the end caps welded to the barrel. The tubes are typically shorter, and also thinner, than other types of cylinders. The reason is that welded-rod cylinders are perfect for work that needs to be done within a limited amount of space. You’ll see welded-rod cylinders in machinery such as road graders, forklifts, lift gates, bulldozers, excavators and more. Welded-rod cylinders are mainstays of mining and oil and gas operations.
- Telescopic cylinders – As the name implies, telescopic cylinders are similar to a telescope in design. They contain several tube, or stages, that sit inside each other. The larger stages deploy first, and then smaller stages extend until the smallest tube has deployed. Dump trucks and garbage trucks typically use telescopic cylinders. When these cylinders retract, they allow the dump body to return to its completely horizontal position – making it safe for the vehicle to travel on roads and highways. Other types of cylinders don’t fully retract, and as a result typically can’t be used on these types of vehicles.
- Tie-rod cylinders – Tie-rod cylinders are built to handle extremely heavy loads, which is why they’re used in many different types of manufacturing and industrial environments.
