Cylinders Deliver a Wide Range of Benefits
Our hydraulic cylinders perform as good or better as their OEM counterparts. These are just a few of the benefits they deliver.
- They offer high load strength.
- Our cylinders can withstand contaminants that would damage the walls of cylinders made of inferior materials.
- They’re easy to service.
In addition, our pin-mounted cylinders save your technicians from having to deal with the dirty, time-consuming job of bleeding a cylinder. Bleeding is necessary, because if it’s not done regularly, that will very likely lead to early failure and expensive repairs.
But this not only takes a lot of time, it’s also a potentially dangerous job. The reason is a mechanic has to enter and exit a dump body in order to properly adjust the screw of the bleeder. Our pin-mounted cylinders are specially designed to bleed the system every time the dump bed moves upward and downward, eliminating not only risks, but also downtime.
Safety Considerations When Installing Hydraulic Cylinders
Hydraulic telescopic cylinders are typically used on vehicles used to dump materials, such as dump trucks. When using these cylinders, however, it’s always important to remember they they’re only designed to provide lifting force. They don’t make the vehicle more stable – if the dump body tilts or rolls, that can make the cylinder bend to the point that the dump body can suddenly drop. This, of course, can lead to severe – possibility even fatal – injuries as well as extensive damage.
Cylinders should not be activated while the truck is on soft or uneven ground, and they also should not be used when crosswinds are strong. If the wheels on one side of the truck are as little as four inches higher than those on the other side, that can put the top of the dump body more than a foot off center when the cylinder is extended to full reach. That can result in the entire truck tipping over.
In addition, the unit should never be overloaded. Loads need to be distributed evenly in order to reduce the risk of the truck tilting or rolling over. Never try to dislodge a part of a load that’s stuck while the cylinder is extended, either partially or fully. That could also increase the chances of a rollover.
